BlephEx Treatments

What is BlephEx?

BlephEx is the first and only clinician treatment for DEBS. It is a painless in-office procedure in which the BlephEx™ hand piece is used to precisely and carefully spin a medical grade micro-sponge along the edge of your eyelids and lashes, removing bacterial biofilm, demodex mites, and exfoliating your eyelids.

Dry Eye Blepharitis Syndrome (DEBS)

Blepharitis is a chronic, inflammatory disease of the eyelids caused by an overgrowth of bacteria living along the lid and the base of the eyelashes. This overgrowth of bacteria produces a biofilm that causes low-grade inflammation. The inflammation leads to decreased tear production and antibody production, allowing even more bacteria to accumulate. This vicious cycle, known as Dry Eye Blepharitis Syndrome, causes chronic irritation and dry eye.

BlephEx™ can also treat demodex infestation. Demodex are parasitic mites that live in the eyelash follicles and glands. They reproduce on the eyelids at night, causing further infestation and inflammation.
